Dr. Meriel Watts coordinates Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Aotearoa New Zealand, is Senior Science Advisor to PAN Asia and the Pacific, and Co-Chairs the POPs Pesticide Working group for IPEN (Pesticide Action Network (PAN) ).
Meriel will present what is really happening to our environment due to dangerous chemical pesticides. She will explain why the issue has been dropped from sight in the mainstream environmental movements.
She has published a number of books on pesticides, including Pesticides and Breast Cancer: A Wake Up Call and Pesticides: Sowing Poison, Growing Hunger, Reaping Sorrow; and numerous monographs, fact sheets, and articles. With a background in agricultural science and a PhD in pesticide risk assessment and policy, she also has considerable experience in organic agriculture, including previously being executive director of New Zealand’s largest organics organisation. Meriel and her partner run a small-certified organic farm on Auckland’s Waiheke Island.
