Obese, undernourished and sick – Food Matters Aotearoa Conference to present the evidence.

Food Matters Aotearoa organisers are encouraged to see that delegates from overseas and a wide range of sectors from New Zealand will be attending. Topics at this controversial conference will address all aspects of food security, sustainability and safety to help inform future policy around food production.

'The importance of good food is acknowledged as the greatest underlying factor for health in our communities," says Susie Lees from the Food Matters Aotearoa team. “With one in three New Zealand adults obese and 11,000 deaths a year attributable to poor nutrition and insufficient exercise there is obviously something wrong with our modern diet. "

Medical practitioner and Food Matters Aotearoa speaker, Dr. Anna Goodwin will validate Dr. Steven Kelly concerns about the growing obesity epidemic and the relationship to a calorific, fatty, rich diet. (1)

Pesticides are also linked to the growing ill health we are facing. According to a number of studies, herbicides deplete essential amino acids and this directly contributes to obesity, depression, autism, inflammatory bowel disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. (2)

Glyphosate, our most widely used herbicide has been implicated in the steady rise of childhood autism, predicted to affect up to 50% of children in ten years.

A new book translated just for the conference, 'Culinary Delights or Hidden Poisons' (3) written by Professor Seralini and Jerome Douzelet, is a dialogue between a scientist and a chef and will discuss how our bodies respond to healthy nutritious food.
